" Understanding and Applying the Benefits of Ultraviolet Light"

The early history of Ultraviolet Light was Pioneered in the 1880's by Dr. Neils Finsen, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 1903, "Where he has opened a new avenue in medical science.

Laboratory studies conducted in the 1920's on the use of UVGI to disinfect air showed such promise that the elimination of airborne disease seemed possible.

The earliest use of UVGI to sterilize air in a surgical air operating room was recorded in 1936, followed closely by the application of UVGI into a school's ventilation system that dramatically reduced the incidence of measles. Later field experiments resulted in the elimination of tuberculosis bacilli from the exhaust air of a TB hospital ward. Soon after, the use of UVGI to disinfect medical equipment became a common and reliable practice, and is still widely in use today.

So, what is UVGI and how can it eliminate contamination, sickness and disease? UVGI is the common term for Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation, UVGI fixtures create and radiate a specific wavelength of light (254Nm), known as UV-C or germicidal light, which pierces through a cell's wall to disrupt its DNA. This effectively neutralizes and destroys the cell's ability to reproduce and renders it harmless.

What are the common uses for UVGI today... and why? Primary UVGI system applications include healthcare, shelters, prisons, and commercial/industrial/ residential applications.

The healthcare community was the first to recognize the widespread benefit of using UVGI cleansing energy to stop the spread of infection, and remains the primary user today with 60% of all UVGI applications installed in hospitals (41%) and clinics (19%), through more extensive use should be considered. FBI Institute of Medicine Statistics indicate that over 100,000 US deaths are caused annually by Infections after admissions to a healthcare facility (nosocomial infection). UVGI has been proven to reduce these infections.

Shelters and Prisons account for another 37% of all US UV installation; (19% each) as both have very similar needs... the resurgence in drug-resistant TB infection endangers the health of both staff and residents. UVGI cleansing energy has been proven to reduce this health threat when applied into either the upper air or HVAC systems of these facilities.

Indoor air is classified as a Top 5 Health Risk by the EPA. Why? Because modern, energy- efficient, air-tight buildings create an ideal breeding ground and incubator for mold, bacterial and viral growth! We breathe germ-laden, recirculated air over-and-over, day after day.

John Ruskin

John Ruskin ( February 8, 1819 - January 20, 1900 ) is best known for his work as an art critic and social critic, but is remembered as an author, poet and artist as well. He penned a famous quote on quality and price. Here it is.

" It is unwise to pay too much. But it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money, that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do.

The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot, It can't be done. Sometimes If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run. And, if you do that, you will have enough to pay for for something better.

There is hardley anything in the world that someone can't make a little worse and sell a little cheaper and people who consider price alone are this man's lawful prey."
